We cannot avoid the fall, but we can choose what we do with it.
Born from an impulse for transformation, hip-hop culture invented several forms of expression to channel raw energy and give it meaning. Breakdancing, grounded in the earth, is one of its most physical expressions: a dance of impact, perseverance, and surpassing oneself.
The piece opens with a body on the floor, struggling to rise. Falling, resisting, starting again. The performers carry this primary energy—its footholds, its falls, its tension, its absolute commitment—yet the piece refuses to settle for a mere display of strength.
As the performance unfolds, the bodies cease to be solely on a quest for conquest. Performance is no longer an armor. Virtuosity opens up to breath. Vulnerability becomes substance. Breakdance movement is hybridized with a more fluid, breathed contemporary energy. This tension between power and release, impact and suspension, structures the choreographic writing. It is not about softening hip-hop, but revealing its sensitive, poetic dimension—the one that emerges when strength allows itself to appear fragile.
The piece moves through raw energy to reach a state where differences no longer oppose, but compose together. From this mutual listening, the group’s poetry is born: a shared, grounded, living force.
From the Ground is a journey of reconstruction: starting from the floor to rise differently, moving from an individual impulse to a collective elevation. A grounded and hybrid hip-hop, where five bodies seek not to dominate, but to rise—together.
